The private-visit route, and who it suits

There are two ways to sell a Rolex to us: ship it fully insured via FedEx, or have us come to you. For sellers in Costa Mesa and the surrounding central county, the second route is usually the obvious choice. The watch never leaves your sight, the conversation happens face to face, and the money moves before anyone stands up from the table.

Before the visit: what we establish in advance

A good visit is short because the homework happened first. You start on our offer request form, describing the watch: model, reference if you can find it, condition, and whether box and papers are present. We reply in under 24 hours with a preliminary range, and we only schedule a meeting when that range works for you. Nobody's time is wasted on a number that was never going to be acceptable.

This matters more than it sounds. The visit is not a negotiation from zero; it is a verification of facts already discussed. If the watch in person matches the watch described, the number holds. The only surprises at a well-run meeting are the ones the seller did not know about their own watch, and even those are explained, not sprung.

Two small preparations shorten the visit considerably. First, locate the paperwork before we arrive, the warranty card in particular, since verifying it against the serial is part of the inspection. Second, if the bracelet was ever sized down, dig out the spare links; a full-length bracelet is worth more than a short one, and links found after the sale help nobody.

What we verify on-site: reference, serial, movement, bracelet

The inspection itself is systematic, and you are welcome to watch every step of it. Four things get verified on every Rolex:

The reference number, engraved between the lugs at 12 o'clock, which confirms the watch is the model and configuration we discussed, with the correct bezel, dial, and hands for that reference.
The serial number, between the lugs at 6 o'clock on older pieces and on the rehaut of modern ones, which dates the watch and must agree with any papers presented.
The movement, inspected for authenticity, correct caliber for the reference, and running behavior. This is where counterfeit and franken watches fail, and it is not optional.
The bracelet, checked for correct clasp codes, stretch, replacement links, and whether it is the bracelet that belongs on that reference.

Papers, box, and service records are reviewed alongside the watch itself: the warranty card is checked against the serial, service invoices are read for what was replaced, and the box is noted for completeness. The full inspection usually takes well under an hour, most of it spent on the movement, and none of it happens out of your sight. We narrate as we go, partly as courtesy and partly because a seller who understands why a bezel insert or a replacement clasp changes the number is a seller who can evaluate our offer on its merits rather than on trust alone.

How payment clears before we leave

Once the watch verifies and we confirm the price, payment happens immediately and in your presence. You choose the method: a bank wire, which you watch arrive if we are sitting in your bank's lobby; Zelle, which lands in minutes and confirms on your own phone; or cash, counted out in front of you. We do not leave with the watch until you have confirmed, on your own screen or in your own hands, that you have been paid.

We should also be explicit about what we do not do. We do not take watches on consignment, we do not pay with checks that clear later, and we do not ask you to release the watch on a promise. We buy outright, same day, and the transaction is complete when we shake hands. If you would rather not meet at all, the insured FedEx route works the same way: we pay the same day the watch verifies.

This structure exists because the largest anxiety in a private sale is sequencing: who holds what, and when. Our answer is that you hold the watch until you hold the money, full stop. It is a simple rule, it removes the awkwardness from the close, and it costs an honest buyer nothing to offer it.
