Selling a watch you inherited.
Inherited watches are a large share of what we buy. The process is the same, with one extra step around proving you are entitled to sell.
Proving you can sell it
You will need identification and something showing you are entitled to sell — a will, letters of administration, or a signed statement from the executor. If the estate is still in probate, talk to the executor before agreeing anything.
Find out what it is first
Inherited watches are frequently misidentified by the family. Take a clear photo of the dial, the case back and any papers before deciding anything. A watch assumed to be costume can be significant, and the reverse is also true.
Do not service or clean it
The instinct is to make it presentable. Resist it. Polishing removes material permanently and can reduce value substantially on an older piece. Send it as it is.
If several people share it
Where a watch is left to more than one person, decide among yourselves before requesting an offer. We will only complete a purchase with clear authority to sell, and unwinding a sale afterwards is far harder than delaying it.
